Land and Scenery

First dawn after 18 hours of travel and no sleep. I have never been so happy to see a sunrise as I was this day.

Approaching Mount Tabor (Mount of the Transfiguration) on the bus. Mount Tabor is at the eastern end of the Jezreel Valley, 11 miles east of the Sea of Galillee. Elevation 1,843 feet. Early Church fathers (Cyril of Jerusalem, Epiphanius and Jerome) believe the Transfiguration took place on Mount Tabor.

The other side of Mount Tabor (Mount of the Transfiguration) from the bus. Israelite tribes gathered on Mount Tabor in the days of Deborah with the Canaanites gathered against them. Deborah led Barak and the Israelite army of 10,000 men (you go girl!). God caused a rainstorm that made the enemy's chariots bog down in the mud (Judges 4-5)

Caesarea Philippi, also known as Banias, where sacrifices to the god Pan were made. Was referred to as the "Gates of Hell" in 3rd century BC. It was here that Jesus pronounced Simon "Peter" and the rock upon which He would build His church.
